Enjoy a day of STEM at MIM, divided into two workshops. The first workshop covers basic STEM concepts using games and guided-inquiry exercises appropriate for grades K–12. The second workshop covers projects designed to introduce concepts of greater complexity with extensive connections to engineering, mathematics, and computer programming. Attendance at both workshops is optional but encouraged! Walk away with classroom project ideas, new ways to spark learning interest among students, and in-gallery activities to strengthen the connection between STEM concepts and MIM’s collections.
Participants receive a certificate for tracking professional development hours and a resource packet. On the day of the session, teachers also receive free admission to the museum to explore and continue developing lesson plan ideas. This session augments MIM’s STEM: How Science Brings Music to Life field trips or the self-guided Trailblazer field trips.
The PD was well balanced. Lecture, hands-on activities, guided tour and exploration. I came away feeling confident that I can make a field trip very worth the students’ STEM education.
