Featured regularly on Maui’s renowned Slack Key Show, these musicians share the uniquely Hawaiian styles of slack-key guitar and ukulele, and songs both traditional and new. The music’s origins date to the early 19th century, when Portuguese immigrants brought the ukulele and Mexican cowboys brought guitars to Hawaii. Hawaiians made these instruments their own, and these dynamic musicians reflect the best of the island’s traditions.
Master slack-key guitarist George Kahumoku Jr., Hawaii’s renaissance man, is a multiple Grammy and Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner. He is also a vocalist, storyteller, songwriter, author, world-traveling performer, and teacher. He produces and stars in the Slack Key Show.
Daniel Ho is a versatile and talented composer, arranger, and performer who sings and plays the ukulele, slack-key guitar, and piano. He is a six-time Grammy winner: four of them came for records featuring George Kahumoku Jr., and the other two were won with his close friend Tia Carrere.
International star and two-time Grammy winner Tia Carrere first made her name showcasing her considerable singing and acting chops in the film Wayne’s World. She went on to featured roles in film and television and returned to her Hawaiian roots in her musical career, releasing two Grammy-winning albums with Daniel Ho.
