The critically acclaimed Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The project’s story took flight in 2009 when filmmaker Mark Johnson brought together more than one hundred musicians from around the globe in a quest to unite local and street musicians from far-ranging cultures.
The current members of Playing for Change’s live band include musicians from the United States, the Netherlands, South Africa, Israel, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cuba, Italy, and Japan. They have collaborated with artists such as Toots and the Maytals, Ziggy Marley, Jackson Browne, Jimmy Buffett, Babaa Maal, and Tinariwen. The band has been featured on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and has toured across Brazil, Europe, Morocco, Australia, and the United States.
“No matter how many great gigs we get to experience, the magic moment when a roomful of strangers forms a transcendent bond in music and movement never fails to excite.”—LA Weekly
“It’s quite possible that no one has ever left a performance by the Playing for Change Band without sporting a huge, ear-to-ear grin.”—Times Union (New York)Back to Concerts
