Winter/Spring 2017 Concert Series
Having sold over one million albums, been awarded seven Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards, five Country Music Awards of Australia Golden Guitars and a swag of Australasian Performing Right Association Awards, Kasey Chambers is one of Australia’s best loved and most respected female performers. Kasey’s balance of commercial success with her credible country roots has accorded her the admiration of her fellow musicians – her supporters including notables such as Emmylou Harris, Elton John and Ben Harper to name a few.
Born in Mt Gambier in South Australia, Kasey grew up in a home environment where listening to and performing country and roots music was a way of life. It had to rub off and it did just as in later years, living on the Nullarbor Plain and travelling all over Australia with her family, the young Kasey got an education like no other.
She spent her childhood absorbing the music of Hank Williams, Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash and other country greats loved by her parents. It was in the family’s revered Dead Ringer Band with dad Bill, mom Di and older brother Nash that 10-year-old Kasey got her first real taste of being on stage. By the time she was in her late teens she was fronting the band and writing some of the songs. Steeped in some of the best American country music from an early age, and surrounded by rock and pop, she’s now a talented crossover artist whose star is rising on the American music scene.
“The Australian country music queen”—Daily Mail
“She’s carved out a place all her own over a career spanning nine records, becoming over time one of the genre’s more inventive and therefore recognized practitioners”—Rolling StoneBack to Concerts
