New acquisitions and MIM collection objects share fascinating stories

Walk through MIM’s galleries and you are sure to find something different to enjoy since your last visit. Exhibits are always changing to feature unique pieces that share stories of the world’s diverse cultures. Recent updates in the Europe Gallery include fully revised exhibits for Germany and France as well as Valved Brass and Adolphe Sax, two displays exploring wind instrument manufacturing innovations of the nineteenth century.

The gallery features new acquisitions, including a rare mid-eighteenth-century guitar, one of six surviving guitars from the famed Spanish luthier Francisco Sanguino, on display in the Spain exhibit. MIM’s curatorial team also brought dozens of instruments and objects out of storage from the museum’s permanent collection, including an Italian keyed trumpet by Antonio Apparuti now on display in the Valved Brass exhibit. Only five exist worldwide and this is the only example in North America.
