Fall 2013 Concert Series

“Under the Covers” has become a favorite recurring highlight at the Birdland jazz club in New York City. The show features a wide variety of top-selling songwriters and musical acts from across the pop, rock, and country worlds and offers intimate acoustic performances of huge hit songs, along with the little-known stories behind them. MIM’s adaptation of the series brings together singer-songwriters Jim Brickman and Victoria Shaw for an intimate night of chart-topping hits.
Jim Brickman has revolutionized the sound of solo piano with his pop-style instrumentals and star-studded vocal collaborations. With over seven million records sold, Brickman has created a romantic sound that has made him the best-selling solo-piano artist of our time. His signature songwriting style, original music, and unique performances have also resulted in six gold- and platinum selling albums, thirty charted adult radio hits, GRAMMY nominations in 2003 and 2009, two SESAC “Songwriter of the Year” awards, a Canadian Country Music Award, and a Gospel Music Association Dove Award.
His best-known compositions include the popular hits “Valentine,” “The Gift,” “Love of My Life,” “Simple Things,” and “Peace.” January 2012 saw Brickman hold the top three spots on the Top 10 of Billboard’s New Age chart for his albums Love, Romanza, and All Is Calm.
If you’ve listened to music at all during the past two decades, chances are Shaw’s talent has touched you. The Nashville-based, New York‒born singer-songwriter has either written or produced some of today’s most memorable tunes and performed on the world’s biggest stages.
Her compositions include six number-one hits for superstar Garth Brooks (“The River” and “She’s Every Woman,” among them); Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera’s multi-format smash “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely”; and John Michael Montgomery’s “I Love the Way You Love Me,” which won “Song of the Year” from the Academy of Country Music and went on to pop success with the international group Boyzone.
The winner of numerous songwriting awards from performing rights organizations ASCAP and SESAC, Shaw has also received two Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards for “Outstanding Original Song” for daytime dramas One Life to Live and As the World Turns.Back to Concerts
