Fall 2016 Concert Series
In the abstract, a banjo duo might seem like a musical concept beset by limitations. But when the banjo players cast in those roles are Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn—he with the virtuosic, jazz-to-classical ingenuity of an iconic instrumentalist and composer with bluegrass roots, she with the earthy sophistication of a postmodern, old-time singer-songwriter—it’s a different matter entirely. There’s no denying that theirs is a one-of-a-kind pairing, with one-of-a-kind possibilities.
Presented in partnership with Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, this concert will be held at the Virginia G. Piper Theater. To purchase tickets, please visit scottsdaleperformingarts.org or call 480.499.8587.
“For more than 30 years, banjoist Béla Fleck . . . one of the world’s most accommodating virtuosos . . . has been pushing the boundaries of his instrument.”—New York Times
“If American old-time music is about adopting earlier, simpler ways of life and music-making, Washburn has proven herself a challenge to that tradition.”—National Public RadioBack to Concerts
